One of the simple pleasures I enjoy in life is the study of words. I will often set at my desk and in a spare moment pick up my old (and worn) Websters Dictionary (1971 edition) and just begin to skim the pages studying various words that stand out to me in the moment. I love looking at each words’ various meanings and uses and I often find new insight that had never occurred to me before even with ‘words’ I feel I know quite well.
Today as I recollected back over the past 2-3 weeks one word flashed through my mind, the word PERSISTENCE. Through the very application of all this word entails I have had what I consider a major triumph this past week in finally being able to establish this Word Press Blog on the World Wide Web. Without going into all the details since the end of October through much effort, work, trial and error I have learned more about the Technical aspects of creating web pages, setting up auto responders, using FTP, setting up Word Press Blogs and many other miscellaneous Internet Marketing tasks that were as foreign to me even six months ago as living in another country or culture would be for most folks.
I owe this Victory all to the Desire to move my life forward( and also from the friendly push of such friends & mentors as Chris Farrell, Tony Teegarden, Diane Hochman, Joe Schroeder , Chuck Bartok , plus many others I have met over the past three years) through the vehicle of Internet Marketing. As I said the one word that keeps coming to my mind related to all of this is Persistence.
Napoleon Hill states in “Think and Grow Rich” “Lack of persistence is one of the major causes of failure. Moreover, experience with thousands of people has proved that lack of persistence is a weakness common to the majority of men. It is a weakness which may be overcome by effort. The ease with which lack of persistence may be conquered will depend entirely upon the intensity of one’s desire. The starting point of all achievement is desire. Keep this constantly in mind. Weak desires bring weak results, just as a small amount of fire makes a small amount of heat. If you find yourself lacking in persistence, this weakness may be remedied by building a stronger fire under your desires.”
For myself, I had to reach a decision about what I truly wanted and then “light a bigger Fire of Desire” (as Hill stated) under my life.
So I ask you today have you developed the characteristic of persistence in your life?
It is a trait, that if you master will serve you well in your pursuit of a life of meaning and purpose.
